What is a B School? How is it different from a University?
B School stands for
Business School, and it is an institution that focuses only on education in
business studies and other related fields. There are a lot of accredited B
Schools in the big cities of India. Suppose you are interested in a career in
the corporate world. In that case, you could do no better than pursuing a
degree at one of the top Business Schools in Hyderabad,
Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai and other major cities in India.
University
A University usually
has a rich history and a large influence in a "college town" or its
location. Degrees in a large variety of fields are offered here, and they cater
to a large list of career and personal interests. University campuses are
generally on the larger side, with on-campus accommodation such as dormitories
and apartments. Class sizes are larger, and the age-ranges are also wider. A
university usually has its own sports teams, stadiums, mascots, gymnasiums and
swimming pools. The library on campus is stacked with all sorts of books,
research papers and magazines.
Social and academic
opportunities are rife at universities, with a vast variety of clubs and
classes offered. Some universities can even be considered as little sustainable
villages, as students rarely need to leave campus. You can work, eat, sleep,
exercise and recreate all on campus. There is staff available for all your
needs on campus.
The quality of
education at universities is usually excellent. Since universities offer
degrees in such a wide range of fields, every field's quality of education
cannot be considered equal in some cases. For example, a university may have a
stellar reputation for the field of Medicine, but a mediocre reputation for the
field of Design. You should do thorough research before applying to any
university, check the ranking of the university and the course that you plan on
taking, communicate with university alumni and current students and check
student reviews on websites.
Some universities
are so large, they have their own separate B School. Suppose you do attend one
of these B Schools. In that case, you can experience all the benefits of a
large university along with a concentrated business program designed per the
modern corporate world.
B School
As mentioned before,
a B School focuses only on business studies and offers degrees for the same and
other related fields. Its focus is narrow and it aims to teach advanced skills
practically. Independent B Schools are smaller than universities and do not
offer the same feature to a university scale. This does not mean the budget of
B Schools is
tiny, as they often
offer better technology and more advanced facilities than a traditional
university.
In conclusion,
pursuing a business degree at a B School or a University are both viable
options. Make sure to do your research before joining any institution as
obtaining a degree from a sub-standard institution would not increase your
chances of a successful corporate career by a lot. A degree from one of the top
Universities or best B Schools in Hyderabad, Pune,
Bangalore, Mumbai or any other big city in India will certainly set you on the
right track for an executive position in the field of your choice.
